The king of Indian snack ,"the golgappa"!!!! Yes, it even got registered inself into the Oxford dictonary recently. I remember gorging on this mouth watering snack every time we went on an outing with my family. Once a week the golgappa wala used to come to our lane ringing its iconic bell. With the sound of the bell every child used to run out with a rupee or two. At that time , with one rupee we could easily get ten golgappas!!! Isn't it sounds surreal now? It is. We used to eat to our heart content leaving no place for dinner. Then our mother used to wake us saying that, if we sleep with an empty stomach then we would get bad dreams. We would awake with fear and finish our dinner half heartedly.
By the time we reached college life, we could eat 8 golgappas with a five rupees. Its size also decreased
Considerably. A golgappa is a golgappa , it cannot be left whatever may be its price. Recently, you will get around 6 golgappa including papdi!!! Can you imagine its price 10 years from now....
Its not only golgappa but a regular phenomenon all over , where we need to shell out unreasonable price for everything around us. I remember I used to feel so sad when I used to give my engineering semester fees of twenty three thousand, thinking that my father has to give so much money for my studies. Now the fees seems unrealistic. We Indians are fascinated with the idea of paying higher sum for a particular thing. You might have overheared the man buying clothes next to you," bhaiya uchhe daam wala dikhana". It becomes easy for the shopkeeper to fool him accordingly.
I recently bumped through a YouTube video about girls showing their summer haul and the likes ,from other countries. There they might mention they brought a dress in 10 dollars or even 2 dollars . It suddenly made me think about what mummy used to say about there times. How they used to buy things in such a less amount. It sometimes makes me doubtful whether we were better earlier or are now???
But who cares? Whatever may be the condition we won't blink an eye lead relishing on our mouthwatering golgappas!!! Isn't it!!!!!!!!!
